We can finally say that the Eurovision Season has started in Spain as the first possible names have appeared on several websites.
It all started a few days ago when it was published on a TV website that TVE was planning to choose internally an artist to represent Spain in Vienna, as it happened in 2012 and 2013. Immediately after this was published (and as it has happened during the last years) several names were published on the forums. But it wasn’t until yesterday afternoon when a very specific name was highlighted: Edurne.
Edurne García (Madrid, 1985), TV host and former Operacion Triunfo singer, has been in the polls for years as a possible Spanish representative in Eurovision. But when it was announced that she was going to leave the TV show she’s conducting now to focus on “an international music project” together with Tony Sánchez-Ohlsson (composer of Quédate conmigo), everyone thought she was the chosen one by TVE. But Sanchez-Ohlsson himself denied the rumors on Facebook saying that the “music project” is Edurne’s new album.
TVE’s official Eurovision Twitter account also denied the rumors and literally said “nothing is confirmed […] once we know something we will let everyone know.” But now a whole list of artists is again on the social media and the fans are discussing who might represent Spain next year.
The Eurovision and TV website/blog Perdona si te digo published yesterday that TVE had asked 3 artists to go to Eurovision: Diana Navarro, Raúl Gómez and Edurne herself. This blog also confirms that TVE is more likely to choose the artist internally than having a national final again like in 2014. If this is the case, the artist could be announced still this month as it happened with Pastora Soler and ESDM (both were announced just before Christmas). Many of you might already know Diana Navarro (Málaga 1978) as she is a very popular singer and has been as well in the polls for many years, and regarding Raúl Gómez (Sevilla, 1994), he is a young singer, winner of the talent show El Número Uno and he has recently released his first album.
I have published several tweets about this during this week and once again I would like to remind that TVE has not announced anything apart from the fact that nothing has been decided yet. According to the Eurovision news portal www.eurovision-spain.com, TVE is not going to make a decision “soon” so we will have to still wait weeks before we know something. The only thing that seems clear is that Spain is more likely to choose internally the singer rather than having a National Final again. Let the rumors begin!
