According to some sources, TVE would have decided to have a National Final and not to choose the performer internally.
This morning we had shocking news from the music website of the department store El Corte Inglés, whose music department has normally quite reliable sources. And according to what they published, TVE will have an Online National Final and the participants will be announced by the end of January.
We had already informed about the internal discussion in TVE between those who wanted an internal choice (and especially those who wanted Ruth Lorenzo in Eurovision) and those who wanted an open National Final with several artists. It seems that the discussion has taken much longer than expected and in the end, according to El Corte Inglés Ocio, the second choice has won. If the National Final takes place, Ruth Lorenzo, the favorite candidate of the Spanish fans and the experts, would not participate and therefore would not represent Spain in Copenhagen, so we would have to wait to see her flying the Spanish flag in Eurovision (although she had offered herself to do so).
According to this website, there are at least 3 performers for the national final: one of them, Roser Murillo, has been in the polls since October and we have mentioned her already as a potential candidate to represent Spain. The other 2 would be Angy Fernández (actress and singer born in Palma de Mallorca, winner of X Factor Spain in 2007) and Melody (Spanish NF 2009). No one knows how the National Final would be but it seems that there would be an online voting like between 2008 and 2010.
The only clear fact is that TVE is still silent and Roser Murillo tweeted a few days ago "if I could say what I know..." but apparently it is "too soon" :
Esos momentos en los q dices..."aiiixxx si yo hablara..."pero va a ser q aun no toca!!! Será la mudanza q me agota...jijij— Roser (@RoserMR) enero 8, 2014
We have to insist that TVE has not confirmed anything so far but the disappointment amongst the Spanish fans is huge. I would really like to know what does TVE have in mind for 2014…
