Globen in Stockholm has been the scene for the Swedish national final (Melodifestivalen) in the last ten years. As of 2013 this will change. With the Swedbank Arena (or national arena as it is also called) being constructed in Solna this will change. The arena that is just north of Stockholm, in the suburb of Solna, is big enough to have room for 70,000 people, which is quite a bit bigger than Globen, where 'only' 14,000 people can be seated. The Swedbank Arena will officially be opened in 27 October. On 9 March the final of Melodifestivalen is scheduled.

In a very close race, Loreen takes the top prize at Melodifestivalen 2012..

One of the traditions in Melodifestivalen is, that a new version of the previous year's winning song will be performed by another artist. Expressen, a Swedish newspaper revealed today, that Popular will be sung by no one less than ESC 2005 winner Helena Paparizou.
