Will Bojana Stamenov from Serbia surprise us all in Vienna?
As you all know, The Common Linnets from The Netherlands secured the silver medal in Copenhagen last year, leaving the gold for Austria's Conchita Wurst. But Amsterdam has proven, again, it would have been a great city to host the Eurovision Song Contest, after this weekend's festivities around the seventh Eurovision in Concert-event in De Melkweg, Amsterdam. Let's look at some figures:
1 Pre-party on Friday, with great performances and lots of dance music from DJ Louis and others
3 Former contestants performing on Friday's party: Nicki French (UK 2000), Suzy (Po rtugal 2014) and Getty Kaspers from Teach-In (N etherlands 1 975)
24 out of 40 countries competing in this year's Eurovision were in Amsterdam for the press program and big Concert on Saturday, including Sweden (for the first time) and Australia.
9 out 16 artists performing in Semi-Final 1 were present on Saturday (Moldova, The Netherlands, Greece, Macedonia, Serbia, Hungary, Belarus, Albania and Georgia)
10 out 17 artists performing in Semi-Final 2 were in the Dutch capital this weekend (Lithuania, Montenegro, Norway, Israel, Latvia, Azerbaijan, Sweden, Cyprus, Slovenia and Poland)
5 out of 7 of the sure finalists this year performed their song in De Melkweg (Austria, Australia, France, Germany and the United Kingdom)
2 Great hosts presented Saturday's show: Edsilia Rombley (Netherlands 1998 & 2007) and Cornald Maas (winner of the EA Award 2015, Dutch Eurovision commentator)
1500 Eurovision fans were in De Melkweg to enjoy the show. The biggest cheers from the audience were for Bojana Stamenov's powerful song Beauty Never Lies for Serbia - she was on fire! Also, big cheers for France (Lisa Angell), Israel (Nadav Guedj), Azerbaijan (Elnur Hüseynov), Australia (Guy Sebastian), Sweden (Måns Zelmerlöw), and of course Dutch hopeful Trijntje Oosterhuis.
2 Former winners from Norway were the special guests at the very end of the great evening: Hanne Krogh and Elisabeth Andreasson, aka The Bobbysocks (Norway 1985). Besides their winning entry La det svinge they sang a couple of other songs, inluding Elisabeth's 1996 entry for Norway, I evighet.
3 Artists performed their 2015 song again at the Eurovision in Concert Afterparty in VondelCS: Electro Velvet from the UK, Ann Sophie from Germany and Måns Zelmerlöw from Sweden (as well as his Melodifestivalen entries Cara Mia and Hope & Glory)
12 Points go to the team organizing this fantastic event every year!
We have spoken with the delegations of Azerbaijan (Elnur Hüseynov), Norway (Mørland & Debrah Scarlett), United Kingdom (Electro Velvet), Austria (The Makemakes) and Lithuania (Monika Linkytė & Vaidas Baumila).
